Hey, i saw one of these little fellas at the lfs and they are really cool! I wuld like to set up 1 tank for a single puffer. Whats the minimum tank size for a target puffer??

I've read basically 20-29 gallons. true target puffers Tetraodon leiurus are not very active puffers. they'll hide most of the day until feeding time. at least that's pretty much what I've always read about them. :)

be careful though, there are quite a few puffers that look alike (T. leiurus, T. turgidus and T. cochincheninsis) and can be difficult to tell apart. :)

the real target puffer (T. leiurus) gets to around 6". of the others I mentioned the turgidus also gets to 6" I think and the cochinchinensis gets to 3-4". :)

gasp! tragedy! the Aqualog has almost nothing to say! (beautiful pictures tho')

i think that all three of these species are sedentary, biters, hiders, and freshwater. tugidus & leiurus get to be ~15 cm. cochinchinensis gets about ~7 cm. the first two need larger tanks between 50 and 75, and the latter needs between 30 and 50 gallons.

put some pictures up and maybe someone can narrow the id. otherwise, *shrug* get a 40 or 50 and keep it by itself. there's not too much difference beyond the sizes, so the precise id isn't that necessary.

A 29 gallon would be quite alright for any of the species, and the smaller one could be kept very nicely ion a 15. ;)

yea i was hoping it could go in a 15 gal as i thought it was a small puffer. Ill ask my lfs store which type they have.
