How long's a piece of string? If you're thinking of a sump tank, you'd probably break even; if you're thinking of a 10ft. x 3ft x 3ft you would be far better getting it built by a professional. It could save you thousands in the event of a DIY project going wrong. I have many times been called on to put right disasterous DIY tank builds, and have witnessed the ensuing chaos at first hand.

I bought a 6x2x2 foot tank for £200. If you shop around you can find tanks of most sizes at prices which just make a self build not worth the effort.

:X Ouch!

If you look around and be in the right place at the right time you can pick up better bargains than that......

Navarre got his 6'x2'x2' for £0 and I got his 4'x2'x2' for £0 :D

Seriously though, there is no resale value for aquariums anymore so your best bet is Freeads or eBay. For example a Jewel Trigon 350 retails at upto £750 but you can pick them up second hand with equipment for around £250. Keep in with your LFS and they might be able to point you in the direction of someone who's giving up the hobby, upgrading, etc.

What cracks me up is seeing those 6x2x2 tanks with cabinets in the likes of "Hollybush garden centre" for £2,500 :D
