Have a question about tanks with closed lids, no vents etc (like a hood) is it ok for betta? can they get air that way? I got my mom a little 2 gallon hex w/ lighted hood for mothers day, (along with a beautiful red/white/blue CT) and am just wondering, seeing how all my tanks have vented tops :)

Most tanks with lighted hoods are at least a little ventilated, and therefore okay. I tend to like them better, because they make a nice pocket of warm humid air for them. If you are really worried about them, you could leave the feeding flap cracked. I wouldn't leave it open all the way... you wouldn't want them to jump.
