I have a 10 gallon tank that I divided into 2 sections. The first section is bigger around 7 or 8 gallons. Im saving this for some dwarf puffers. The 2nd section is the remainder of the tank, so 2 or 3 gallons. I just got a new crowntail betta and put it in the smaller section. I plan on putting some snails in that section to with the betta. Im wondering if there is any other small tankmates I could put with the betta too.

Picture of tank setup

Does anyone know of any small fish that can handle 2 or 3 gallons of room and get along with the betta? I just dont want my new betta to be too lonely. I have a different betta in my community tank and he gets along really well with the rest of the fish.

If I *had* to I could move the divider more to allow for some more room but I dont want to take away from the puffer section.

thanks!

In a space that small , I highly doubt that you could get any kind of fish to get along with a betta. The snails should be fine unless the betta starts to harrass them, then you might want to move them. Otherwise, most fish a betta would attempt to kill. And if you want your puffers to have more room you would move the divider over some but don't let it get under 1 gallon. And to keep your little guy from getting bored, visit him often. I do and my bettas all love me. Well, exept for King but he's kind of just a big fish-booty. For the rest of them though, when I walk into the room they all swim over to the side of the tank and watch me. I have a little glob of red wax from a candle in a Mcdonalds Mcflurry spoon that I hold in front of their noses on the outside, then run it around and they folow it. We also have other games that we like to play like i'll put a large piece of cucumber in the tank, and they all play tag with it. One betta will grab it and swim off, and another with take it from them and swim the other way. This goes on untill they eather get bored with it or run out of cucumber. It's really fun to watch! Of couse, my females can't get bored, there are 2 of them, but I also have things that I can play with my isolated males. Try coming up with a game that both you and your betta enjoy. It's awsome how you can form a bond with your fish even through solid glass :fun:

I wouldn't move the divider over, it's fine as it is!
Bettas don't get lonely, they are solitary fish so he will be fine on his own. The only tankmates suitable would be a shrimp or snail, might have to check which ones are suitable though.
