Tank With Curved Edges / Seamfree?

Hi everyone

I want to upgrade to a bigger tank & I like the look of the Aqua One AR980 with its curved edges (this means it doesnt have any front seams).
The only thing is that the filters etc are in the hood & Id prefer them to be external (any thoughts on whether this is a good preference??!)
Are there any other curved corner / seamfree tanks out there?

external power filters are much better than the ones in the lid. They are bigger and hold more filter material. They also turn over more water per hour than the unit in the lid.

there are plenty of curved front tanks available and I don't like any of them. If something happens to the front glass the whole thing has to be replaced. They also cost about twice as much as a normal rectangular aquarium. They are for show and people with money to burn.

You don't have to use the filter that it comes with. Whilst I don't have a AquaOne, I do have a Cleair which is set up the same (including the rounded glass corners). I removed the filter and installed an external - luckily the up and over filter system was cheaply made and was designed just to lift out.

PS next tank I get will never have rounded glass corners - algae is bugger to get out of the corners once it gets in there

Yes the larger AquaOnes are seamless at the front which means you have no ugly black seams at the front to spoil your view. There is a little distortion howerver in the corners which is to be expected.

I disagree with the previous posters comments. The canopy filters in each model are designed to cope with the amount of fish that the tank SHOULD hold. There is plenty of space in the filter chambers to hold a great deal of media. (there is no need to use AquaOnes expensive cartridges, just use the foam and noodles and polester) Whats more the filters can be cleaned and changed/added to without disturbing the tank as with internals nor need priming as with externals. No fear of leaking everywhere. If a blockage occures (only due to VERY poor maintinance) then it is designed to allow water to flow back directly into the tank.

Algae is a bugger to get out of the corners? A single wipe down the corners at water change time with a removal pad, sooooo easy!

Yes the curved glass is for show....course it is that's because it looks so good! Naturally they will cost more than bog standard rectangular tanks, but twice as much? A Chinese one maybe Never known one to fail but I guess everyone knows of one make or another that has failed and has rubbished the entire range.

My biggest is an 850 so I am over your 980.

I'm a fan of the float glass curved corners, sooo much nicer to look at imo. never had a problem getting algae out of the corners - in fact it is easier getting it off a curve than out of a glued seam.

I think i've taken my liking of the curves to the extreme now with my new aquamode 600 arriving on friday...

bet you can't guess what i'll be doing this bank holiday weekend ?
