so the 2nd hand tank I bought supposedly has a crack in the bottom plate and the current owner has brought it to a pet shop to be repaired. He said, they'll put glass to fix it.

Without seeing/knowing how this is done, I can imagine the fix to be a glass on top of the crack section that has been put in place using silicone?

would this be correct? I doubt the fixed would include replacing the bottom plate.

Should I retract my offer?

Thank you

that is exactly how they would replace the glass. take out the old cracked glass. scrape old silicone, add new glass using silicone.
if he will guarantee watertightness afterward, or if you have some silicone in case, id take it. very easy to fix yourself actually.
cheers

what if the repair does not involved replacing the cracked plate?

I have repaired tanks by replacing pieces of glass, including a 55 gallon where I replaced the front pane of glass. I would not accept a tank that has a patch on it though.

where are you getting it from? if you're picking it up ask him to fill it with water for when you get there to make sure it holds water. if he wont, don't buy it
