I have just got a 36"x12"x15" tank, and it is on a metal stand. I calculate the water volume to be around 80 litres so an all in weight of around 100Kg?? Is this correct, and should I have any concerns about placing a tank of this size upstairs on a carpeted, floorboard, floor??

Dont want to learn the hard way!! LOL

It won't be a problem, many people have much bigger tanks then that on the second floor. At my last house I had a 90 and a 35 gallon on the same wall, and not a load bearing wall either.

When it does come to oversized tanks, you still don't need to worry about it crashing down through the floor, this doesn't happen. The hardware could warp over time, but that's about it.

Using the equation l*w*h/231 then * by 8.3, it's around 225 lbs. That shouldn't be a problem at all.

To calculate the weight of your tank with water on it, You have to consider that 1 gallon equals approx 10 pounds, so if you have a 30 gallon tank, which i assume you have then you have about 300 pounds sitting in that stand....

or if your doing it in litres, 1 litre = 1 kilgoram
