I have recently set up a 90litre fluval tank. Is houses 3 danio's and 2 dalmation mollies at present.

The tank has only been set up about 3 weeks, has bog wood, live plnts and stones, temp 26c.

All seems fine, fish looking healthy and active, eating well as usual.

When i came home from work last night the tank water had a strange orange/brown tint to it. The water looks perfectly clear and clean apart from on the surface which i can only discribe as looking dusty. There is nothing on the water surface but it looks like there is dust on the water.

Im pretty confused. Any help much apreciated. x

Sounds like it could be tannins from your bogwood. Tannins will dye the water like tea. They are harmless to the fish, perhaps even liked by them. The stain may get darker for a bit but eventually will work its way out with your weekly water changes. If it doesn't get too dark I'd recommend just dealing with it that way. If you are too impatient for that then you could boil the bogwood some more. And as a followup to that you could also do a couple of rounds of putting carbon in one of your filter chambers (if you replace anything, don't change more than 1/3 so that the other 2/3 will retain your precious biomedia!)
