I have an open spot in my Eclipse System 3 tank. I recently moved out my betta splendens because of health reasons. :/ The tank is now solely occupied by my 3 leopard corys. ;)

Still deciding if I want to replace the betta, try a different fish, or leave the corys by themself. -_-

Any thoughts what would be a good tankmate to my corys? Need to avoid overcrowding.

That tank probably could only afford to have 1-2 more fish in it.....if they are neon size.....but then again, it all depends on how big your cory's are! Maybe it is already overcrowded and that is the reason for your bettas health problems.

No... the betta had health problems before the corys were added. So I took the betta out for his own tank... thus leaving the corys alone. The betta eventually passed away in the other tank.

Two of my corys are very small (1" or less)... the third cory is about 1" to 1.5" already (the big brother).

I was thinking about getting one Cherry Barb, one Angel, or two tetras to go with the corys. Will either of those have behavioral problems with the corys? What do you think would be the best combination?

no angel.......i think the rule for them is 1 fish per 10 gallons. also..my experience with barbs..they like to be grouped, so i wouldnt go with that choice but, im no expert :p

try leaving them as they are for a while jaywings - your big 'brother' is probably a female and the two little brothers males - that's how mine turned out - Blossum is bigger and fatter than Billy

You never know.........maybe babies :D .......and if you've added anyone else......no more babies  ........

good luck

cherry barbs are really shy around their own species. they are kind of loners anyway... i think one would get on fine. but if your tank is only three gallons, you don't have much room for options.

You know... I kept thinking the "big brother" is a female... I'm not good with telling the sexes of fish unless obvious (bettas, swordtails, etc.).

Hi Jaywings 19, :D

If you got all 3 corys at the same time and if they were all about the same size and now one has grown faster and larger, that one is probably the female.

How about a pair of guppies with the corys? This will give you some nice movement in the water above the corys and they don't take up too much space in a small tank.

Actually, the larger one was that way when I brought it home. They've all stayed the same size since I got them... about 3 weeks.

I picked up two male Swordtails (yellow / orange) yesterday. Unfortunately, the yellow one died shortly after getting it home. :( It seemed very stressed out when I was going through the acclimation process, so I kept him stable for longer than his counterpart. It still didn't help and that was very frustrating... I'm taking a trip back to the LFS today to see what they can do for me. I don't think I'm going to ask for a different one... just store credit or something.

One a positive note, the orange one (still unnamed) seems to be doing well so far.

It always amazes me that the fish I bring home all love admiring their reflections  ... guess because the LFS tanks don't have reflective surfaces.

Jaywings19--hello! :D

Swordtails sound like a fine choice for your tank. They are lovely fish and I've thought about getting some myself, but find that there is always a catfish or something that I just have to have, so I never did get any.

It's too bad, though, that the one did not make it. Sometimes that just happens. :(

Good luck with it.
