Hi there i have recently acquired a juwel vision 180 tank and was wondering if it is possible too have this tank upstairs there have been mixed discusions in my household as to whether this would be ok because of the weight, i have worked out the weight and it is approx 400lbs when full with water because it is a 180 litre tank!

depends on your house, i am having a 212L tank in my room upstairs

think the house was built in the 1960's so its not that old! i currently have my 60 litre set up in the corner of my room and have had no problems but because of the extra 120 litres i wasn't sure if it would be ok

I would've thought you'd be OK - you can test it by getting two rugby (or American football if that's more your local sport) types to stand in an awkward embrace where the tank would go...

thats a great idea but i would worry bout 2 blokes in room and my girlfriend might like it a bit to much lol !!! however i will try and find out from a builder so something to get there opinion!!!

i had a 250 litre upstrairs for 2 years . was fine. wouldnt want to put my 450 litre up there though!

bloody hell drewry do you live in a mansion!!

It all depends on the floor construction.

In my upstairs bedroom I have (all in imperial gallons): a 100, a 37, a 30, 3x 20 and a 10.

The spare room has a 75, a 45, 15 and a 10 (all within a 4x2 floor span).

I think you would be alright as long as you make sure the tanks load is spread over a few of the joists

I have a vision 180 in my upstairs flat.

I wouldn't want it in my bedroom though, the filter can be a bit noisy and I wouldn't be able to sleep.

I WONT BE HAVING THE ORIGINAL FILTER IN THE TANK I WILL BE USING A TETRATEC 1000 INTERNAL OR MAYBE AN EXTERNAL WHICH CAME WITH THE TANK IM NOT TOTALLY SURE YET THO!
I HAVE A TETRATEC 600 IN MY 60LITRE TANK AND ITS VERY QUIET AND EXTREMELY EASY TO CLEAN!

here is a link to a structural engineers explanation of floor structure and how you can have tanks upwards of 90 gallons on any floor of your residence:

Floor Structure

Warning.... bit long and boring for the lay person, but lots of sound engineering concepts. Don't worry, no math more complicated than multiplication :good:
