Hi guys,
I've just upgraded from a 60l tank to a Trigon 190 and I'm looking for some advice on what new fish I can get to be suitable tankmates for my existing fish.
At the moment I have:
2 guppies
2 Mollies
2 Zebra danios
1 Common Plec
2 Pearl Gouramis
2 Butterfly fish.
I really like Kribensis, Hatchet fish, Sucking loaches and Peppered cats. Which of these, if any would be appropriate? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Is there anything I should definately avoid? Also, is it possible to get more than 1 plec in a tank? I've fallen in love with a zebra plec I saw in my lf.

Does it have a bow front? It sounds nice. The fish you suggested sound fine. I know nothing about "sucking" loaches, however. Mollies like a lot of salt you know. The others don't. All of the fish go together except the mollies IMO.

Yeah it's lovely. Its a new Juwel one and yes it does have a bow front.
Thanks for the tip about the mollies. I've not read that anywhere. I'll keep a closer eye on them, though i've had them a few months since i got my first tank and they've survived all my beginners mistakes whereas some of the 'hardier' fish haven't.
How many average size fish then would I be able to safely stock?

When you say Butterfly fish do you mean the colourful cichlid type or the African surface dwelling type, the latter is a predator and when grown (max size 4")will eat the guppies and danios :( .If its the cichlid type then any of your chosen fish will make good tank mates although the Kribs too like a little salt.

They're the surface dwelling ones. My lf told me they would be ok with the others and only go for any fry. I guess they just saw the chance of a quick buck. Damn.

The Butterflys have enormous mouths and will easily swallow anything up to about 2" plus they can move surpisingly quickly. In a tank that size Congo tetras would make a nice addition the males are particually stunning, plus they get too big for Butterflys to eat.If you still want Hatchets you will have to go for the silver variety as the marbled ones would be food.

Thanks for the advice. It was the silver ones I was thinking of getting.
Fortunately I still have the 60 litre tank, and as the killer butterfly fish are the ones my boyfriend chose, I've been able to er.., shall we say persuade him, that we can find room in our new but tiny flat to keep the old tank for my smaller fish.
So now I have two tanks!!!
Every cloud....
