i did have a 30" tank to start off my malawi collection now upgraded to a 48" it looks a bit 'sterile' at the moment but will be adding more stone and features next weekend. also a pic of a labidochromis hongi, my b est looking male. sorry for the fuzzy pics.
nice rock formation mate. will be adding asap, but it cost me enough for tank, tufa rock etc. just one question, there does not seem to be a lot of hiding places, bolt holes etc, is your rock just piled up against the back of the tank?.
Hi Nelly.
I would be a tad concerned about the tank being longer than the table it is standing on,i presume it is a table,it isnt too easy to tell.Is it strong enough,i wouldnt want you to have a disaster on your hands?
the table is reinforced underneath with flat steel bars and the legs are tubular steel, me and my eldest lad about 29 stone combined have danced on it, wrestled on it , and me and the wife have even...............................................................................................had our tea on it. now, now keep it clean thank you.
As for the rocks you mentioned i know what you mean by cost.Yesterday i bought two boxes of ocean rock for £50,one was a 20kg box and the other was a 25kg.Looks great in the tank though so i suppose it was worth it.
i just got tufa rock at 50p a pound but obviously with the cost of tank etc money was dwindling away fast!, so i just got 10 pound to put me on, luckily the fish are juveniles so they can fit into small places, so i will be at least doubling the volume next weekend. please keep the comments coming, we are here but to learn.
Regarding the rock though i think ocean rock really looks the part with tons of holes and each one is uniquely shaped. No one looks the same.
I am just about to start a Malawi tank, yeserday i stripped down my community tank and gave all my fishes away.I didnt really want to lose them but i have nowhere to put them so my LFS took them in hand.I must admit that the tank looks great and is spotlessly clean after the big shake up.I am just waiting for the PH to settle as it is still a little too low at 7.5.Also the ammonia and nitrite went through the roof so i need to keep my eye on them before any fishes can be introduced.
I`ll do a few pics when i have a bit of time but the tank looks like the one Rixy has posted earlier except i am using play sand instead of black sand.
I also have a couple of pieces of Mopani wood and one piece of bogwood to stop the look being too `rocky`just to break it up a bit.
I may add a Java fern too to add some greenery. My old one look tatty so i chucked it out.
