Hi all,

i am a student and i'm moving my relatively new fish tank back home for the summer..... however, i'm also upgrading to a larger tank. the current one is a 4 gallon that has completed its fish-in cycle. i'm moving up to a 24" x 15" x 12" tank. does anyone have any tips about moving to a new tank, ill keep the current gravel, and the current filter... will that be enough to stop the tank from needing to cycle again? or am i going to have to start from scratch? summer is 4 months, then i have to move the fish back to my student digs for 8 months. i hope i wont have to do cycling each time i move the fish! any tips would be fantastic!

thanks!

hi everyone, still hoping for some tips on this? can anyone suggest how to reduce the cycle time for this?

thank you!

How far do you have to move? How long will it take? You may be able to just keep your filter media in some tank water (in a bag or bucket). If you do not add any more fish than what you already have in the four gallon tank just set up the tank and start the filter with the old media. You should not affect the cycle enough to hurt your fish. Make sure you aclimate the fish to the new water at your house unless it is very similar in hardness and ph to your school's water.
