so, i've a 29 gallon with two orandas, and i'm finding it pretty much impossible to get the temperature to stay down. It's a bit over 80F, and almost 30C, right now, and that's with the lid off and a fan blowing across the surface.

the fish are not showing any signs of distress, they're bright and actively looking for food, their fins are raised, but is there any way to drop the tank temperature further? the only solution i can think of is to switch out water with cooler water every day, but i'm worried about the stress and possibly causing a mini cycle in the tank.

any ideas?

ive heard about floating and rotating frozen bottles of water on the top but not sure hoe effective this is. i just do water changes and leave a fan blowing

my goldfish tank stays contact at around 75f and has reached 90f this summer. I think trying to lower the temp in one go will stress them. it would be the same ish if they were in a pond (i measured temps outdoors).

yeah, i don't want to do anyhting that will really stress them out, but they're fancies, which i hear tend to be more vulnerable to extreme temperatures. ah well...

Fill a ziploc baggie with ice cubes, then put it in a second ziploc to prevent leaks.
Turn your lights OFF and float the bag at top. Used to help with my goldies!
Good luck!
-_-

I did that :D Ill see if it goes down! The problem is they are in my room which is upstairs so it is HOT.
What do I do if it goes up again :/

Dont worry too much, just make sure you have lots of oxygen going in as the warmer the water gets the less oxygen it holds.

is it possible the high temps are what is causing the goldies to occasionally tilt to one side (horizontally, not vertically)? I know fancies are prone to swimbladder, could the heat be upsetting their balance?

Goldies naturally tilt to the brightest light source.
If the room is brighter than the tank or theres a bright window then they try to get the light from above them which is why they will lean over.

aheh, that'll be it then :X i read that about endlers, but convinced myself that didn't hold true to goldies as well. glad it's nothing to worry about though.
