Hi, I am building my own glass aquarium to fit into an alcove in my living room once the materials arrive. I am quite happy to give that a go thanks mainly to the advice I have gleaned off this site.

I am less unsure about the tanks stand though in paticular:

1. Is this a project that I could undertake (novice diyer), I thought about using kitchen cupboards but that may look naff?

2. I did think about using a local carpenter to build me a stand but I would need to give him some direction and I do not have a design and how could I be sure that it would be strong enough to take the weight of the tank?

Almost forgot this will be a tropical set up, however I would want the capabilty to turn it into a marine set up in a few years (once I have gained some more experience) so I would appreciate advice from any of the marine forum especially about RO units, skimmers, sumps, plumbing etc.

The way I currently see the deign is to have at least two cupboards below the tank for my fish equipment (bucket etc) and one for my external filter and I could have three cupboards overhead also as

The alcoves measurements are

Width: 20 inches

Height: 93 inches

Length: 64 inches

The dimesions of the tank will be:

Width: 18 inches

Height: 36 inches

Length: 60 inches

Sorry for waffling on but I really need advice,

Thanks

Look under the DIY section, there is a stand building program that gives you a cut list when you put in the stand dimensions. I, as well as other forum members here, have used this design for stands. It's built stronger than anything I've seen in any LFS.
