I have an alcove in my house.

Across the front of the alcove is a brick wall. There is also a brick wall at the back of the alcove. A piece of wood sits on top and acts as a sideboard.

I plan to add bricks either side of the alcove and in the centre and then find a nice thick piece of quality wood for the tank to sit on top.

My question is:

Does the wood and tank have to completely rest on the bricks? What I mean is, can the wooden top overhang the brick wall by a few inches and is it ok for the tank to go on this?

Hopefully this can explain better (sorry, I know it is crude). This view is looking down from above ie. if the tank was on top you would be looking in the top.

If you use a nice thick piece of plywood for the top the tank will be fine. Don't worry about the center brick pile, it is not needed and is likely to cause localized stresses in the tank by any slight unevenness in the plywood's support.
