my tank glass keeps getting dirt on it, i do regular water changes and clean the glass but it comes back within a few days, im thinking maybe getting a 2nd filter to clean the water then take it out, anyone do this idea?
Hi Lee. For about 3 years now I've had my Juwel Vision 180 and it's been running with just the Jewel filter. More recently over the past few months (perhaps of the hotter weather?) I've really been struggling to keep the inside of the glass clean too. I have some algae on the plants too, but really nothing serious. I had to scrub the inside of the glass with a scouring pad every week or else I couldn't see my fish.
However.......... a few weeks ago i bought a new external filter and it's a bit more powerful than my current one. But the difference it's making in the clarity of the water is absolutely astounding ! And I have practically NO algae on the glass anymore !
So I suggest you check if your filtration requirements for your bioload is up to scratch and think of upgrading your filter. It made a huge difference for me.
And yes, I have another tank that I run two internal filters on. But this week I will be replacing them with an external as well.
But obviously running the old filter (s) in the tank alongside the new one for a couple of weeks so that the bacteria are established in the new one.
Ah ok - well if you are willing to go external and have £45 to spend (inclusive of postage and all filter media), you should go for a Hagen Fluval 104 (they are much more expensive in the shops for exactly the same thing). They are probably cheapest on eBay. You could also go for an internal Fluval 3 (the 2 wouldn't suffice) which is £22.50 inclusive of postage.
However, external filters are soooo much better - 10 times less hassle and maintenance, unobtrusive and just do a much better all round job.
What filter are you currently running ?
