i need everyones help here. I was looking at a Eclipse Explorer II but then I though to myself....Couldn't I just buy 2.5 Gallon tanks and put in a heater and forget a filter? And what happens if I get a delicate betta with really fancy fins and it cant risist the filter?

What do you think? What do you keep your bettas in?
What kind of light do you use? Do you even use a filter?
For some reason stagnant water gives me the hibijeebies. Any Ideas?
merf...

I keep my Betta's in 2.5G and 5G tanks (see my sig). I cut up a gravel back and used tin 1/4" and plastic hose to replace the original hose. Might put a sponge filter.

Used to have plants in half the tanks, but took them out because they messed up the water too much (newbie... probably wrong plants). The poor betta's in those tanks got Ich. Looking for silk plants to replace the live ones.

This allows me to vacum the tank without the turbulance of original gravel vac. Also each betta has its own hose/straw. I do 25-30% water changes every other day.

No heater, but the ambients here ar pretty much the same as Thailand. It hit 22C here the other day though which is the coldest this year so far I think.

This is what I do, but I am a newbie (6 weeks into betta's).

I see where you're going with the shelf idea. Just remember that you have to get inside the tanks on the bottom,so you'll need a good six inches of clearance for your hand/arm/gravel vac/refills etc

Personally, I don't use filters at all on any of my betta.

I just measured on my wall how big the shelf would be. It could hold 6 2.5 gallon tanks with room to get in and all. BTW, is thier a perfered way to clean a 2.5 gallon tank without haveing to carry that tank down, into the bathroom, and dump the water in the toilet? Would some kind of auto-syphon what could drain all the water out? Thanks for all your help so far :D

Get a gravel vac. Cut out the end. Inset a thinner tube and use tape or zip ties to have the old thiker tube wrap it in place. Removes the water without all the turbulance :D

Hey ral, I couldnt really follow your instuctions. Could you post a quick drawing or a clearer set of inscructions please? Thanks.

Well I looked im my closet and found 3 2.5 gallon tanks that Ive kept for hospital tanks and desided to use those kind of tanks. I will pick up 6 of them on my way to albany tomarrow from Petsmart. Petsmart is the only place where I can find these neet small migit looking tanks.

also, my dad just said he will help me build the shelf if I buy him a beer

And my mom...well she doesnt like water so I tend to just ignor her becuase she is just like that.....

But its a a-okay!

Ill do it

Here is a picture of the tanks I will be useing!

It is a crappy shot, but I hope it gives you the idea:

Wait, isn't that just a syphon with a smaller head?

If so, then just get a smaller size vac and don't waste the effort and spend money on something that doesn't work...

I've got a mini gravel vac that I bought at Wal-Mart which is perfect for 2.5 gallon tanks...

I will try to get a better shot, but basically it is just a gravel vac with part of the tuding saeed offed and replaced by a thinner tube. It result in less water flow but also less turbulance.

If you can get a mini vac where you are, than no need to make one. Unfortunatley we don't have any here. I built this one though so the "vacum" end could be changed. Each of my fish has a different tube but I get to use just one pump :D

thanks guys, ive chenged my mind and are going to use AquaVizz 1 1/2 gallon acrilic small animal and fish tank. It has a slight bow in the frount and has a place for wires, atachable light, bubbler connector so i could put in a bubbler (which im not going to) and a feeding slot :D Its cool at only $4.50 a container :p
