what do u mena how long u have to leave untill u can put fish in it or what fihs mix well or what stuff u can out in it of like do u want to know about all the technical stuff eg. water chemsitry!
I meant what kind of fish to put in the tank, I have kept fish for a few years with reasonable success but have recently moved and am looking for ideas. The shops up here in aberdeen haven't got too much selection and I'm looking for something a little bit different! Thanks for the reply this group seems pretty friendly.
If I were setting up a tank I'd first check what the local water parameters are like and then what fish are suitable - keeps things much simpler and the fish happier in the long run
Do you know what your local water is like? - Helps narrow down the choices
It's v. soft pH around neutral other than that I don't know!
I know this makes it easy to select S American fish (mostly), are there any other alternatives?
i'm guessing u have a tall tank .... so as u said ur water suits south american species then i surgest angelfish as they probably like having a tall tank ,cos there quite tall, if u get my drift or a discus and some other south american species u like....but that kinda my little dream new tank i want hehehe, but to me south american tank would be kool or u could go for more asian tank with all the gourami, bettas, and barbs or u could go for a very specilese tank like a lake from africa but u kinda need a long ways tank for that or u could have a community tank... also u cant get as many fish in a tall tank as a long ways tank.. hope this has helped but i would also go around ur lfs's and see what fish they have write them down and then reserch to see if there and compatible with each other and stuff!
thanks guys and gals for the comments
i have recently inherited a large piece of mopani wood covered (literally) in java fern and java moss along with 3 diamond tetras from a neighbour who has just moved out so that has kind of swung it in the favour of a s. american theme, maybe angels (a favourite of mine) more diamonds and probably some corydoras.
he also gave me two other tanks and accessories to go with them (sometimes you get lucky!!!) which are in my shed at the moment waiting for some room inside or a conversion attempt on the shed and lots more tanks!!! only have to persuade the wife it is a good idea first
