i have a new tank and i'm using it for breeding. and i was wondering if you need a lot of things for the fry to hide in. or if you just need a few plants. and vote on the poll i have. on page one :fish:

My breeding and fry tanks are very sparse, breeding tanks are decorated with just one or two plastic plants and fry tanks are completely bare even without any substrate, they are filtered by low power sponge filters.I find that the tanks are easier to maintain this way and that fish are easier to net once the spawning is finished.

I keep a 10g guppy breeding tank setup, though it doesn't always house guppies. (Right now there's a royal pleco living in it.) I keep a 6"d tower style sponge running in it, plus an aquaclear 150 (which is removed if I expect any fry). It has flourite substrate. If I get the urge to help bring a few more guppies into the world, I run out and get enough water lettuce to make a 1" layer all across the top of the tank, a few softball sized bunches of java moss, and some guppies. 2 months later I have more guppies than I can get rid of. They breed like crazy in that floating water lettuce, with enough fry surviving naturaly to eleminate the need to remove any of the adults. I do step up the water change schedule though.

From what I've seen, floating water lettuce = tons of guppies!
