ive been looking into getting some sand for my tank and was wondering how much i should get and when i get it how would i clean it. i have gravel now obviously and i just use a vacuum to suck it up, but it seems if i were to use the vacuum on the sand it would suck the sand up along with it. thanks in advanced,

i was thinking of getting 50 pounds. i have a 44 gallon tank. it is a corner tank so the floor of it is not that large. its about 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet and about 2 feet tall. i want the sand to be deep enough to have fake plants easily be barried, i was thinking about 1.5-2 inches thick of sand. maybe even a little more.

hi i have sand in my tank.... and pythons do nothing but suck up the sand and leave the wast on the bottem .... and it makes me mad..... so what i have resorted to is useing my fish net to scoop up an areia that i notice alot of wast and shake the net at the top of the tank untill all the sand falls back in and the net collects all the wast .... time consumeing yes ......... but it works if anyone has a better way pleas let is know :D thanks

use a gravel vac.

You can skim the surface, or you could lightly jab the surface for a better clean.

If you suck any sand up, who cares. The sand will sink to the bottom of the bucket the siphon empties into. Just empty the water and replace the sand into your tank.

Your sand must be very fine. I use python and unless I dig into my sand, they don't get sucked up at all. Poops easily get sucked up the python tube. I have no issues cleaning the tank with sand using python (at least mine).
