Hi Guys

Got some crap advice starting up and now I have everything in place to to sort out my tank and waterflow. My tank is nearly 7 months old now.

Question 1:

I have a big DSB in my tank. It's a mixture of crushed coral and aragonite. Crushed coral is really bad as when my Lionfish goes for food that ends up on the sand he swallows the stones gulping. He then pukes them back up.

Not nice for him, also stones look really nasty and I prefer sand alot more.

I got rid of my some stones by sieving sand through a mesh which seemed to work. Sand fell to the bottom stones stayed in sieve. However loads of pods got displaced.

If I use this method for the rest of the tank is there a chance alot of my pod life will die? Will it almost be like starting from scratch?

Question 2: Got a big sheet of egg crate along with piping. Currently everything runs through an external filter.

Does anyone know any good sites tips on making homes for fish using eggcrate, point me to any good sites?

Question 3:I have heard to suspend my egg crate slightly above sand and use a spray bar underneath to push water through rock. How should I go about this? My thoughts below

( ---)
( ) Rock
============== Egg Crate
[]---------------[] Spray bar ( pipes to hold up egg crate)
SSSSSSSSSSSSSS Sand

Thanks guys, I want to do this tommorrow so some advice soon would be appreciated.

I'd sift the crushed coral out slowly over a couple of weeks to a month, that'll keep your pod population high and not wreak havoc with your bio filtration :)

Not sure about the eggcrate mods as I've never done them myslef... Good luck :blink:
