I upgraded the accomodations for my male betta to a 10 gallon divided tank. It works well because the filter (HOB) is on the leftside of the divider and he's on the right side so there's little current to bother him.

Well, I now need something for the leftside as it's looking terribly empty there - but I don't want to get another betta due to the current on that side.

Any ideas of what would work in a 10G divided? Snails? Frog? Shrimp?

Frogs can't handle a current very well at all, either, so I wouldn't recommend them at all.

However, 5 or so White Cloud Mountain Minnows would love the current. They're originally river fish, and thrive with a current.

but a 5 gallon seems to small for schooling fish.

maybe guppies, or a platty trio, though it probably is to small for the platties. but if you have a nice male you can actually let the betta and platties live together. You can divide the tank into 2 gallons and 8 gallons, and on the 2 gallons you can have the filter.

But if you want snails, you can keep them with the betta.
