My brother has a 50L with a male VT and 4 cory. I asked him if he would like some mollys, platies or harlequins. He said he wasn't too fond of any of them and asked me if i could come up with some similar alternatives... Thats where i hand it over to your capable hands people.

Also, my 20L looks rather bare and i was considering the possibility of any fish tank mates rather than just shrimp or snails. Again, where i hand over to you guys and gals.

Cheers.

50L = Approx. 11G

I'm currently trying golden pencilfish with a male betta. He's really not interested in them, and they haven't nipped or bothered him one bit.

They're attractive little fish, seem to be hardy, and they sort of "hover" in the water by vibrating their fins- it's neat!

Danios are good along with any other kind of minnow, such as White Cloud Mountain Minnow, Golden Danio, Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnow, etc. Also ottos are good, but not very hearty fish. Plecos work nicely, but be careful of the species as some can get quite large. And I've never seen anyone mention it, but I think Dojo loaches might work as well as Sucking loaches aka Chinese Algae Eaters, but please feel free to correct me on this as I'm not certain on this.

chinese algae eaters get massive and aggressive and often grow up to discover a taste for the body slime of other fish. not a good choice imho

p.s cursedblad3 i love your sig, really nice work.

ottos... fun little buggers that tend to be active 24/7

As a matter of fact, I was in the LFS and saw a little bitty Chinese algae eater trying to grasp onto the fish but they seemed quite saavy about the whole thing...

How about Cory Cats? They're active!

My brother already has some corys. I'm more after something midlevel, possibly shoaling for him.

and for my 20L i now have the betta and 3 amano shrimp. Would you call that full?

other than corys or ottos for the 5 gal. I don't think anything else would work as you said you didn't want a snail. Anything else I wouldn't really take a chance on because there's no telling how territorial your betta is as it's only 5 gal.

am i right in saying danios, rasboras in general are good for the 50l, along with mollies, platys etc etc.

danios and rasboras are fine but mollies and platys are a no go for living with a betta, also tetras are out along with angels.
