Anything relatively small providing you have good plant cover for the shrimp to hide in.

Things with specialized mouths such as plecos and other sucking catfish are the only 100% safe tankmate. With sufficient cover, smaller fish such as rasboras, smaller tetras, guppies and mainly herbivorous fish may be safe.

thanks for the replies and my tank is about 2-3weeks old without any inhabitants yet as i havent decided wat to put into it and its 35litres and my ph is around 7-8 its more alkaline than neutral but i willing to do more maintanance than usual on a tank if i can keep a more varied araay of species thanks alot matt

my cherry shrimp are in a 30 gallon tank with rasboras, tetras and some peacock gudgeons...........I'm sure some of the baby shrimp were eaten but with alot of plants i have had enough to survive..........I have some banana shrimp that are in a 40 gallon hexagon tank with a few varieties of small danios, i dont recommend putting your shrimp in with these guys, i thought they would be safe, but i have witnessed the danios chasing, catching and eating some of the smaller shrimp..........as far as plecos and catfish, they will eat them too if given the oppurtunity..........I watched my pleco suck down the one amano shrimp in his tank with no problem.............try to stick with little fish (not danios, though) and alot of plant cover and your shrimp should thrive

the shrimp in my 55 litre hex tank are in with pygmy corys and brigitte rasboras - i put 8 cherrys in there 2 months ago and removed over 80 this evening and the tank is still full of shrimp -with lots of newborn and baby shrimplets swimming around

so i would say that they are pretty safe with these fish

for breeding the cherry shrimp, is it best to have 2 males and 1 female?

you only need 1 or 2 males even in a large group of females they are busy chaps and can covert all the females
so i would say more females than males is essential

Virtually every fish will chomp down on baby shrimp if given the chance hence why you will need lots of thick moss and plenty of plants and caves to ensure the shrimplets are safe and able to feed on the micro-organisms in the tank.
