Hello all.

Had the tank an (Orca Tl450) for a few weeks now. Eveything is going really well.

Hardly had any evaporation and Water stats have been text book perfect since about 2 days after delivery.

That said I need to do some maintainence. I searched TFF for the TL450 and found a great deal on how to mod them (new skimmer, change media) but as the tank is so established (2 years before I got it), I am reluctant to do this.

As such I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidence on what maintainece I should be doing on my unmodded tank.

The (poor) photograph below shows the layout of the 4 compartments. So far I have only cleaned the skimmer every 2 days.

Left to right.

The first compartment has sponge media which fits around the UV steralizer.
The 4th has Bioballs and wool.

Many thanks

Forgot to ask, do I clean the Media in tank Water like with my Freshwater tanks? I have 11.5kg ove LR in there so I guess the majority of the bateria live in there.

Its tough to suggest a time-based schedule but make sure to keep the media clean before it accumulates too much detritus. This is usually on the order of once every 1-2 weeks, but your mileage may vary. It is fine to clean the media in tapwater, just make sure you squeeze it out well before putting it back in the filter. Do make sure you clean your UV if you can...
