okay heres the question im upgrading my 55 planted tank, with new lights and filter and a few other small things, but i was wondering if you can kill plants with to much light, and what would a good wattage be for a 55 i only got 2-30 watt lights now, which is doing ok for the plants but they are small and arent realy competting for light yet which i know would be a probelm with my current lights

it depends on plants. Some of them prefer shadow. Some of then suck light as sponge.

When you use tubes, you "cannot" add too much light. But if you put HQI, then your plants could die of too much light.

60watts is just little over min. requirements in your tank.

okay thanx, im upgrading to some where around 3 watts per gallon so around 160 in all not sure on exact yet ,
