tank light question

Should we keep the light on in our aquarium all day, or should we only turn it on for a certain amount of time?? Does keeping the light on affect the temperature a lot?? Does it make the temp. go up?? We have a 5 gallon tank, just to let you know.
I appreciate everyones help. My girlfriend and I are new to this and we are getting most of your questions answered and moving along well. Thanks

i turn it on when i wake up.. turn it off when i sleep...

as for temp.. depends how many watts your bulb is i guess... shouldnt affect it thaat much

It depends. do you have an incadescent or a flourescent light?
Inc's tend to make the temp go up, sometimes to high. flo's add a little heat but nothin that really matters.

we got a 5 gallon tank with a 50 watt heater and just regular light bulb
