When it arrives the new RSM will go onto a not-so-level floor (wooden floorboards under carpet and underlay) - great Victorian London housing!!!

What's the best way to get a level tank in this circumstance?

agree with above, just have to remember what ever you use should be able to take a whole lot of weight without getting futher comressed like old bits of carpet or cardboard do, have known people use a bit of slate, tile and wood for this purpose.

Look for shims used to do window & door installation, I've been using these for years to level tanks, racks, etc. Go with solid hardwood strips if it is out by 1/2" or more and add the shims to the hardwood strips.

Please do not use mdf, or any other composition type wood. When these are dry they are very strong, when they get wet they turn to something akin to oatmeal.

Personally I'd put it under the stand though. If you put it under the tank itself then there would be stress on the glass and that could lead to cracks and shattering.

I totally missed that one, TY! You have to shim between the stand & floor, leveling the stand.

You could also approach your local double glazing firm. Their fitters use spacers, come in differing mm size depths (hard plastic) for aligning DG units in the frames,

Thanks for the help, guys. Will add whatever material under the unit that the tank will go on top, rather than directly under the glass tank:)
Some people saythat they use plastic-coated playing cards; surely that will just compress over a short time?
