Hello, I have a 5gal tank with a betta, two oto fish, and a snail. Yesterday I noticed a small pool of water coming out the side of the tank, but the 5gal's done that before and it wasn't a big deal, just a little leak. But now it's dripping and sopping wet, and it's emptying out the tank fast. It's really late where I am, like 3 in the morning, so I can't deal with it today so it has to wait until tomorrow morning. I have buckets under the leakage and I moved my fish and snails to a small 2.5 I had lying around, I only filled it halfway and the water is really cold for the snail and oto's. I don't have any gravel in the 2.5 but I had some spare ornaments and fake plants lying around so I put those in there for Wendigo (my betta) to rest on and my oto's to hide in.

So basically the 2.5 is VERY temporary. What I need help on is my tank. If there is a hole or crack in it, is there any way to patch it up? They need their home back soon, the poor little buggers.

Obviously, the important thing is to find the crack. You can get aquarium-safe sealant, once the crack is dry, use the sealant and allow it to cure for minimum 48 hours.

In the meantime, it may be better to go out at get one of those large plastic bins. You can put your filter and heater on it and you'll be good to go. Be sure to empty the tank out completely. If there is gravel or anything At the bottom of the tank and the crack is at the bottom, the gravel may make the situation worse.

Okay, so I woke up this morning to check on the 5gal, and everything is completely dry??
The tank still has water in it, but the leakage is just gone??
I don't know how this is possible.
I put back in some water to see if maybe it's just the pressure and nothing has happened yet so I put my fish back in as well.
This is very strange indeed, If it does it again I'll look for a crack, but it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with it.
Yes, it did still empty out about a quarter of the way, but then it seemed to stop.
I'm really confused.

has a bit of gunk or gravel blocked the crack, personally i would investigate before assuming all is well, my 20L cracked corner to corner on the base after my husband moved the tank with just gravel in i sealed it and its fine, has my sons betta in it

I agree. It would be much better to go ahead and see what's up rather than assuming everything will be okay.

I'm doing a water change today anyways, I'll post updates when I get back, I'll lift it up then and see what's going on.

Well, I checked the tank for cracks and I didn't see anything. And I filled it up, and it's been fine for a few hours and now it's leaking again. >.>
I have no idea how this is even possible, I checked for cracks.
Maybe there's something wrong with the base??

Maybe there is something up with the sealant along the lower edges? Did you check that? It might be a good idea to go ahead and get some silicone and reseal it.

Does this tank have a floating base?

I just figured out what it is when I was checking out the outer base behind the tank.
The filter seems to be spewing water over the edges. Thank god it's not as bad as it seemed, but it ruined a picture of me and my sister :(
And it's still emptying out the tank.
I don't have any extra filters so right now I just have cloths around where the filter is spewing water.
It's spilling over the edge at a constant rate, not sure why though. I don't suppose filters are supposed to do that xD
