Me and the girlfriend are slightly fish obsessed these days - it hasnt taken long, and are now thinking about our last tank (has to be that way because of lack of space and money!)

Our idea is for a bedroom nano tank (I know, I know nano's are not good but we really can't have anything bigger up there!)

My initial ideas would be Superfish Qubie 40 (which i would treat as a 8gal tank once displacement was considered), with possibly the filter changed for something silent! - Suggestions welcome here! and stocking of possibly scarlet badis or sparkling gourami.

I would be greatful for any ideas regarding tank choice (preferably not >£65 new) and also other stocking posibilities as i am not too clued up on the micro fish suitable for nano aquaria.

Thanks.

I personally love livebearers, but you seem to be in a different ballpark than what i would suggest as stocking options for an 8 gal. I'll let somebody else answer that now, but if you ever have to come back and need a smaller, hardy fish look into livebearers.

A very beautifully colored male guppy would be cool, or perhaps a betta. Both are fairly low maintnence fish.

Have had a quick look at this Superfish Aqua-Qubie 40.

To be sure, is it this one?

Several website give different measurements and this is the one I suspect is closet to to actual measurements of the tank.
L 34.1cm x W 35cm x H 39.8cm, according to the forum calculator its 48 litre tank, 13 US gallons

Decent looking little start up tank. But the dimensions make this more of a taller tank than length so this restricts some stocking options as the actual length of swimming space is quite narrow.

A betta would be ideal in this tank, or perhaps as a Red Cherry Shrimps and snails tank.
Depending on the betta, its possible you could have betta and shrimps in same tank, but this is not guaranteed as bettas may eat the RCS.

I would not recommend guppies or endlers for a tank of these dimension, they are active little fish, i have had endlers in a 6 gal  nano tank (dimensions not all that dissimilar tbh) and when I moved them to the 10 gal clear seal tank the behaviour of the endlers was very noticeable so since then would never recommend little livebearers like these in a small tank again, they'll survive but not thrive.

As for your other choices, a little more information for you from Seriously Fish Website which IMO is fairly reliable.

dario-dario or Scarlet Badis require minimum tan size 45cm x 30cm

Trichopsis pumila  or Sparkling Gourami, requires minimum tank size 45cm x 30cm

So not a huge amount of stocking options for a tank of this size, if you have not already bought this tank, i would suggest trying to get a tank that has a longer tank length, for example my Clearseal tank is L 45.5 x W 30.5 x H 31 (look at my sig pic) , and that opens up more stocking options purely because of the length of tank, i could have either of the two choices listed above without worrying at all.

An option for you to think about anyway.

Ch4rlie has given you perfect advice there ^

A little longer of a tank would make the world of difference option wise and if it means you can stock your preferred fish thats even better.

You could also do a nano with some cherry shrimp or the like if you want something other than fishies!
