Hi all, I need to get a new hood, and could probably do with a new bulb too.
I was thinking of getting a double light one. Is there an advantage to this, as in having 2 different bulbs?

The tank is 48"x12"

And does anyone know where I can get one online?

Cheers. ;)

if you want to have a nice planted tank, then the bulbs ar every important!

if you're just looking for a regular tank, then i would suggest at least 2 24 inch bulbs otherwise your tank will be really dark.

most pet stores will sell hoods for 4 feet tanks and most will have the adequate lighting for a non planted tank.

if you want planted, you should look into building your own

If you intend to have a planted tank, I would suggest spending the extra money and getting power compact lights. they are more expensive but it is really the only way to get the wattage you need for most plants. With regular flourescent bulbs, even a double strip, you will be lucky if you can manage 2 watts per gallon. More than likely you will probably only get 1 to 1.5 wpg.

ok thanks but I'm not really too clued up about WPG etc.
All I know is I have a stack of plants that love to grow outta control.

Would you say £90 is ok for a clearseal hood and 2 bulbs? (no starter units)
