Hello,

I am a newbie and have a 55 gallon tank with 3 clown loaches and 1 red chromide (I think... it was a gift but it may be a red devil???).

How much empty space should be left from the top of the tank to allow for aeration? (would this be the "ullage" as in a wine bottle?)

Thanks

JG

just fill it to the point that you can't see the water level from the front as this usually looks bad. Also aeration is more a mater of surface agitation than amount of airspace available. So, if you're worried about aeration, fill the tank to a point that you you still have some surface movement, but ot to the point that your tank sounds like a waterfall.
