Hey Everyone:
I bought a product made by PENN-PLAX, it's called Tank Divider from a little fish store close by for $15.00. Installs easy. Looks cooler too (than a net hangin'). B)

It's a plastic wall you slid into provided sliders/suction strip with little holes smaller than the tiniest newborn Fry. It reaches to the bottom and I cut it to the height of my tank. So I have a quarter of my tank for the growing fry - you can set it up to divide anyway you want.

It is so much better than any net breeder to protect babies, and if you're stuck for cash, it beats the price of any new tank set-up!

I must say that this isn't quite true... I have Zebra Danio fry, and like many egg layers, they are beyond tiny when they're new.. they're barely see-able! My fry were so tiny that adult fish were able to suck them through mesh.. the finest mesh I'd ever seen. So needless to say, they can quite easily fit through the holes in all dividers I've seen! Haha sheesh, I wish it wasn't this way, cuz it makes me have to use both!

It is probably perfect, however, for the livebearer fry, seeing as how they are significantly bigger than those of egglaying species. Thanks for the suggestion! I think I might look into it in the future!

yah i saw one of those in my fish store a month ago i was going to get one but i didn't want to waste money if it didn't fit or if it wasn't good!!
so you say its good does it fit any size tank etc...

The link "lizard" placed in her response sells the small divider for $5.99 (plus shipping). I bought the medium for $15.00 to keep a little "Mom&Pop" fish store thriving locally.

To answer the question, "does it fit any size tank?" The medium fit my standard 20 gal. tank - it was taller and I had to cut away some - but it fits width perfect. I'd measure your tank and if you see a dank divider in the store, take a look at the packaging for suggested dimensions. :D

I too have the Penn Plax one for 10g and 29g - they both seem decent. The holes will be too big for majority of fries from eggs but for larger ones or live bearers it should work well...

I'm going to divide my 33g to see if I can accomodate large and small fries at the same time.... :D

Good idea! I haven't been to the lfs since you posted about the divider, so I don't have any idea what their prices are like. I think I'm going there this weekend, so maybe I'll check
