Hi im thinking of changing the deco in my tropical tank but not sure how to go about it and what to put in, my tank is only 43 litres & has alot of house mates, has to be loachy friendly to.

So come on guys and gals let your imgaination roll :book:

Hmmmmm, very hard subject this, its all amatter of personal taste, my own view, and thats exacly what it is, is i like to give the fish as natural enviroment as possible gravel, plants, driftwood, rocks, pebbles etc, i really dont like to see laser lights, but again its a peronal view.
you will find whatever suits you, good hunting. :D

well im pretty oppinionated about decco the fish tend to like most stuff so long as it doesnt obstruct a nice good dash across the tank now and then. some of them will love a little hiding place. and for the tank veiwer its often found that natural looking things are more favorable. tho as foggy rightly points out its all down to personal taste. i like things that a fish can hide in i especially like the bamboo thing in PanthyWanthy's tank it seems to serv most perposes and look like it belongs... i find all the rocks i put in my tank out side but they affect the water chemistry so it doesnt hurt to look them up on the net to see if they are strong alkaline producers like limestone or perhaps more acidic like ummm ....um ... er .... pyrite.. i think.

I think all depends on what fish you have and what money you have or time, theres no point having small caves with big fish or vice versa but I think keep it natural looking like an abstract and somewhere that caters for each of your fish's needs

i would go for the more natural look myself. I feel all those laser lights and neon lights althou they look nice are not a fish tank requirement in my books. I can safely say that colored gravel and other ornaments , bridges, divers etc etc are not my cup of tea or look good myself.

these are my views only u may agree or disagree thats ur choice! I have mine you have yours

If you're looking for loachy friendly you may want to go with some nice holey drift/boogwood, or some pvc tubes buried in the sand.....if you want to put some extra time into it you could buy some of those hamster tubes and make a maze under the gravel (and pray nothing dies inside the maze  ) ...the possibilitys are endless...as the others said it's a matter of a personal preference

hmmmm some very good suggestions there guys and gals. I like the idea of the under water maze but i would be worried if loachy got stuck or confused & died of stavation. Good idea for a larger tank (which i be getting shortly)

I fancy the idea of up turned flower pots either plastic or terrcotta, what do you reackon?

...hmmm doing more thinking about the maze, with multiple openings pointed sideways to avoid excess waste collection, and running the tubes tight to the glass it might work....oh no, now I need a new tank to try out my theory...hehehehe :hyper:

the terracotta pots work well, if you knock the bottoms off and place 2 together it makes a nice tunnel/cave.

Im hurt that no one said anything about greek ruins.......lol J/K in all seriousness live plants with some rock and caves would look sweet
