Hello Everyone,

Last night we discovered that my tank has sprung a leak so my mum today has gone out and purchased a new one for me.

This will be the first time I will be setting it up as my ex set my old one up as a surprise present for me.

I have the gravel and majority of the old water but the question i have is do i put a bit of water in before the gravel or gravel first and then the water???

Stupid question I know but I want to get it right I will be greatful for any advice

Many Thanks
Alimak

hi, doesnt matter which way you add it, but i'd add the gravel first.
Are you going to caryy on using the old filter?

The new tank has come with a whole new filteration system. I don't think the old filter of my broken tank will fit in the new tank as it is shallower but deeper if that makes sense???

still use the old one and the new one, as the old one has all the good bacteria that the new one cant make as its so new

thats my opinion anyway!

will the filter sponges & media from the old filter fit in the new one? if not definatly run them both to give time for good bacteria to build up in the new one!!
i put the gravel in 1st then place a saucer on the gravel to pour the water onto, stops the gravel flying everywhere!!

Hi

How bad is your leak in your old tank? Maybe with a little bit of silicon you could have a nice spare tank. Or a nice second tank. 2 tanks = more fish = more happiness

I've been there - an recently. Friday morning I woke up to my 90 Gallon with a huge reverse smiley face crack running all along with fron to the tank. There was about 3 inches of water left!! No casualties, thank goodness. Still, I nearly cried multiple time during the 10 hour marathon clean up (carpeted room, unfortunately).

Also - unless you where able to keep the filter in the tank water most of the time your tank will have to cycle all over. If it's still wet and have been kept running or in tank water you should be good to go, though.
