ok, i am looking at building 3 growout tank's for my malawi's, i want them 36x12x12 divided into 2 tanks each, what is the best way to go about building your own tank, obviously i need the glass and aquarium sealant, but is there a special method to buiding tanks? thanx in advance.

or how would i go about doing it out of acrylic as i have heard aquarium sealant will not work

For the cost of building it all its actually no better cost effective to build your own in comparison to buying one new. Just scouting around for second hand ones is cheaper. Look for second hand clearseal tanks, cheap enough new and cheaper still second hand :)

there are none local tho, and i have a glaziers 2 mins down the road where i used to get my glass for sliding doors on vivariums for my snakes, i also have a sheet of glass behind my sofa that i have no use for so may aswell use it for a fish tank.

as said above it would work out cheaper to buy second have and just divide the tanks yourself if thats how you want them to look, i have built my own but im lucky as my uncle owns a glass cutting factory so it pretty much only costs me a bottle of wine for a new tank. as for putting them together just make sure you clean all the joints properly ( ive used white vinegar in the past ) and make sure they are dry before sticking together, clamps also come in very handy but are not essential just alot easier if doing it yourself.
