i have a bought a new tank which is 48" x 18" and i need to think of a background, i dont really want to put a photo of plants on. so i was wondering if anbody could sugest any alternative methods of covering the yellow wall of a background.

Here are a few options that I could think of.......
- build a rock face with small caves
- put an air curtain
- put ornaments in the tank that complement the yellow wall
- put/ grow enough plants to effectively hide the wall

what kind of fish?

Glued pvc pipes to the back... then on that I glued lots of rocks... gravel doesnt work well but the large stones (1-2") worked great... Ive only lost a few. Be hind that you will want to put a dark papper to compleat the look.

soft water.

cork board... can find plane cork at hardware stores, un 12"x12" x1/2"

You could paint the outside of the back of the tank black or blue.

What about wrapping paper of some sort? I have a purplish/blueish/pinkish one on my 46 gal and it looks awesome. Paper is cheap, so if it gets wet it's easy to replace. Just a suggestion.
