Got a 4x2x2 tank and just bought the large Interpet gravel vac. My tank's got sand and so after getting the syphon working expected to be picking up poop and cleaning quite easily.

No such luck.

I can be holding the tall vacuum "pole" just above the sand yet the poop seems to very slowly go up before coming back down onto the gravel again!

So either I'm not getting a strong enough syphoning action, or the tube isn't wide enough. Maybe it's cause I have to attach a garden hose - it's losing speed or something?

Any suggestions welcomed!

Hi.

Firstly, the wider the vacuum pole (as you call it) the lower the 'suck' will be so a narrow tube is better for pulling up the poop.
I use a long length of hosepipe too and it will slow down the flow a bit due to resistance. The secret is to get the end of the hose as low as possible below the level of your tank.

I have used many but found this one (60cm, 24") excellent Aqua One Pro
