I love the males with the large tails but hate seeing them sit on the bottom or hang tail down because of the weight of the tail. There must be a happy medium somewhere.
I know. I think that's why I have three of the little guys!! I will probably spawn them next. Two are copper crosses and I have two cambodians that are also copper crosses that I got from someone in California.
I don't seem to have much luck with those fish that I send for and pay so much for. However, give me my own little guys from a spawn and they do great!! I just have a few from this current spawn so perhaps I can get something that has plenty of fin area but not all that much so that he can't swim.
I got a nice black from Pete Dunn that is beautiful. However, he has so much fin - now he is a huge fish - that all he does is sit in the corner hanging. He runs out, flirts with his female, and then retreats to the corner where he spends all his time.
I think a lot of veil tails get a bad rap. It all depends on the fish. I have a near dozen bettas, and all of them are extremely active and don't act 'weighed down' by their large tails at all.
Mine either. Ollie's a viel tail and he can jump clean out of the water when he wants to. In fact he even has a flow from his filter and deliberately swims against the flow! He's one fit fishy.
Hugs,
P.
