Please help...

I've kept weather loaches for many years and never had a problem. Then suddenly one day I noticed that one had a white fluffy substance on it's tail. I've seen the devastating effect that finrot can have and so, quickly quarantined my sick loach from the others. The others have been fine for the last week or so (with no signs of any disease and enjoying the benefits of a newly sterilized tank etc) but, after treating my sick loach with finrot/anti fungal medication he has gone from bad to worse. The Fungal ring around his tail resulted in his tail actually dropping off! (Although amazingly he's still swimming around, & eating etc)! I've re-dosed with medication and now have to decide what the best/kindest course of action may now be best to take. Has anyone had this problem before? Or does any one have any suggestions that would help or at least tell me if it was finrot that coursed this?

Any advice would be gratefully received...

Francesca

Well i had a dwarf cichlid who had her tail ripped off i quarantined her by herself so no could nip her, she was swimming around a bit lopsided but fine and within a few months her tail grew back!! so assuming your medicine has got rid of the fin rot, i would keep him alone till it grows back! Good lucK ! Hope this helps ;)

Hi, Thanks for the advice...There's hope yet it seems! I think I've got rid of the fin rot now, and my loach is suddenly allot more active and doesn't seem to have got worse over the last couple of days. So I'm going to do the same as you did (keep him quarantined) and hope it grows back.

Thanks again,

Francesca

Good to hear the Loach is getting better. Fin Rot is a treatable disease and once medicated and cured there is always a good chance of recovery although it may be slow. Be sure to make sure you have cured the original problem which may have caused the Fin Rot in the first place.
