Hi everyone! I just joined today... hope you don't mind helping a newbie! :)

My Betta has tail rot and I am treating him with the Jungle Buddies fizz tab things. How are you supposed to know if it is working or if you need to retreat it?

This morning when I woke up, his bottom fin had split.

I don't know if that means the fungus is dead and fallin off or if the problem is getting worse. I have never dealt with this before.

Thanks very much in advance! :)

Welcome! What do you have in the tank with the betta? Often plastic plants, sharp ornaments etc... will tear your betta's fin. Fin rot is characterized by darkening of the tips of the tail and deterioration. Is his tail black at the ends? If not you may just be dealing with a ripped fin. You should make sure that you keep his water clean and add some aquarium salt. The fizz tabs you are refering to are they fungus eliminating fizz tabs (fungus clear tank buddies) or is it just the water conditioner (bowl buddies)? I have had some success with jungle products for fin rot...however what I have used is called jungle fungus eliminator crystals.

Hi! Yes...he definitely has the darkened tips and deterioration, that is how I knew it was fungus and not just an injury :(
I am using the fungus clear along with some aquarium salt.
I guess I will try another dose.... I did just clean his tank...
If that doesn't work I will clean it again and try to find some crystals.
Thanks :)

What happens when it is healing? Do the damaged parts fall off or what?

Yes in my experience the damaged parts do fall off....so it looks like it is getting worse at first but then you will notice the darkened tips will dissapear... you just have to wait a few days to figure out if your treatment is working or not monitoring him for improvement....once is it under control you can put him in some bettamax to promote new fin growth if you like especially if it turns out to be nasty and he looses quite a bit of fin. New fin growth is characterized by clear edges that will gain color in a short while... Glad to be of some help.....good luck with your little guy

Thank you SO much! :)
I REALLY appreciate your help! :)
