I bought 6 skunk cats for a 75g tank that I will put Discus in eventualy. I found today that 5 out of the 6 have had their tails nipped! Only one had no nipping so.... I'm presuming it is the guilty one and have isolated it for a while. Other than isolating the guilty party is there anything I can do to prevent this. I have had other fish nip fins before but this is the 1st time I have had a cori do it.

It is only the bottom of the tail. Is it possible they are dragging their tail and wearing it away? Don T.

I would have thought it is much more likely that they got the tails some other way- most likely finrot. Corys don't really have that much in the way of fin-nipping equipment. Are there sharp bits in your substrate? What is your gravel vac routine? Water stats?

There is no indication of fin rot and one has iregular chunks out of the tail. I have not actualy seen the fin nipping. I am baffelled. I have never had cori's nip anything before. I did put some stress coat in to help the healing. Don T.

How long do you have them?
I am with dwarfgourami that I am very doubtful that other cory or any cory would nip anybody's tail or fins.

I suspect the store you bought from might kept those cory in the tank with some fin-nipper like tiger barb or something. The store tend to keep some other fish with the corys since corys are bottom fish.

I have had them 2 weeks. They were in a take with other cori's and nothing else. I agree, I have never had cori's nip tails before. Don T.
