Hi,

I'm planning a 'nano' planted tank for my 24" spare Clearseal and wondered what the cheapest option would be for T5 lighting?

I want 'overtank' (luminaire) probably and I reckon I'll need at least 2 bulbs, maybe more?

I've also seen the GLO T5HO Linear Lighting System 24W 58-101cm, Double for less than £50. Is it any good?

Also does anyone know of a thread here for a DIY unit?

Lots of questions - sorry.

Cheers

I have this unit and love it, but i don't have it for a nano. Great light output for a planted freshwater 20G 24" tank, has steel cable if you wish to suspend and extension rods built in for larger tanks. Also has brackets for attaching directly to glass if you done have a rim on the tank. I have a Power Glo and a Life Glo lamp for the plants and fishes. No Fans not too hot, good build quality. Better over glass I think because they are open, but that may increase temp too much. HO - High Output very bright, try a double maybe and a third if you need it

It has a single domed reflector rather than a double, but of course you can buy a double reflector for it. Or they sell parts for DIY too.

However, it has only a single power lead and no switches for power, plugs straight into the wall.

They also do single strips if you wish to go for a third that could be on a different timer.

Thanks for your help.

I think I will go for this option as everyone has told me a DIY build will cost just as much.

Cheers
