Hi,
I recently setup a FOWLR tank because I got told by many people that reefs are difficault to do and that if you did one and it goes wrong, that I would have to bin all my live rock, obviously I did not want to risk £100's of pounds of live rock, but recently a few of my friends have started up reef tanks and they have said that even if I had a system crash I would not have to bin the live rock - the only time you would have to do this is if you put copper medicine in the tank as it would get absorbed into the live rock. So what is the truth on the matter?

Mate as long as your power stays on and you don't have something massive die and rot on your tank (an anemone for example) not likely to have a crash and if you did your LR will probably be fine.

Think of it this way, that rock was transported half the way around the world wrapped in newspaper it's tougher then you think. Reef tanks are easier and more stable to keep now and you shouldn't have any problems as long as you care for it.

Same here, the only reason you really have to throw out LR is if you dose copper or if it becomes too covered with pests (aiptasia, mojano, etc) where you just get sick of it :)

Hey there Ski,

I must say I haven't seen you in here for a while; you still browsing the forum? How's the tank coming along, done a water change yet? I think the last time we chatted you were telling me the tank was booming and you hadn't done a water change in about 2 years. I, on the other hand, am still doing the weekly 10% on all my tanks which as you say is the safest way to keep marines. Anyway all the best and hope you have a good christmas and all that.

Joe

P.s sorry for jacking the post it's been along time since I have come across a Ski entry.
