I have a 90gallon tank. Moderately to heavily planted with co2 at 20ppm and 3.4 watts per gallon. I do EI dosing and my plants grow VERY fast. I trim plants every 1-2 weeks.

I have 6 Indian flasher barbs in the tank, 6 dwarf neon rainbows, 3 platys. I am considering adding a Synodontis multipunctatus. All fish will be 1-2" and obviously grow...

Will this work? I have been told yes but I want to make sure I get 2nd,3rd,4th opinions.

This tank has a few small pieces of drift wood with anibus and good hiding spots for the Synodontis multipunctatus.

To be honest I am dripping the Synodontis multipunctatus now to acclimate him/her.

If I feel this combination wont work I have many other tanks I can work with...

Thanks for any advice,

Cheers!

Why would it not work? Any synodontis is a wonderful addition to a large tank such as yours. They don't bother anyone and mind their own business as long as no one messes with their little hideouts.

Great! I had the same thoughts however I like to get many opinions. I would still like more comments.

I do wonder about how to enourage the Synodintis to swim out in the open...

My Rainbow shark in my other tank (55g planted with a pair of breeding angelfish) eats out of my hand and swims all over the place, it is amazing. The Rainbow Shark and Angels get along amazing! (I think this is rare...) The rainbow shark has two perfect hiding spots and uses them but swims in the open most of the time....

How do I "encourage" my Synodontis multipunctatus to do the same?

thanks so much

Cheers!

While not nocturnal s.multipunctatus, prefers dim lighting, so should be happy under the plants. They are also happier in groups of 3 or more. Here's a good article on them, it focuses on them being tankmates with African Cichlids, but it's got some good information.

Here's another really good article.

yea I was even gonna mention that too, dim lighting. They don't like bright light at all. I used to keep synodontis with my african cichlids. Best catfish in the world along with cories IMO.
