this is my adopted one from Jobys he has swim bladder..how can you tell

my fantail swims upside down sometimes so I know he has.

Also on my new weed there are about 4 snails some ordinary and then some like a cone and they have been pooing in the bettas tanks as snails do.. are they any benefit in the tanks or would you chuck them in the pond?

The ones that rode into my tank as stowaways cleaned up some leaves on plants that had yuck on them. Supposedly they help with algae but man oh man, they breed like bunnies. I'm always taking eggs off the side of the tank.....

He was one of the least affected by SBD and I think could possibly grow out of it :D

I'm surprised he hasn't seen the snails yet, most of my bettas scoff them, I find empty shells all over the place  but seriously if you can get them out, do it now of you could be over run before you know it

Thanks..he is beautiful and has been whizzing round his new tank like superman! He likes to sit on top of his heater and keep his bottom warm!

The cone shaped ones are probably Malasyain trumpet snails, which in my opinion are a useful kind of snail. Snails generally only breed like bunnies if there's an abundance of food (read: if you're overfeeding). I'd remove the pond snails and keep the MTSes if I were you.

Heck, I'm actually waiting until the MTSes in my 20g breed enough to relocate some to my 5g. Some people actually purchase them.

If you lived closer, I'd put a whole bunch on the bus and send them over. I only have a betta that gets fed in the tank and every mouthful gets monitored by me and eaten up by him. If he ate any less, he'd find a way to choke me in my sleep!! He's most unsatisfied as it is poor guy. Liz-if snails were coins we'd be rich!

  I have also got a water butt full of them! I threw weed in there a couple of years ago..I also have live daphnia grow later on..the water is crystal clear..I wont let hubby water garden with it...I use it to feed my fishes! :hyper: :hyper:
