swxing rainbow fish

my brother bought three Australlian Rainbow fish two weeks ago. One has a yellow tail, and the other trwo have red tails. im wondering if the yellow tailed one minght be a female?

also one of the red tailed ones has red sores all over his body, they look like scratch marcs from a cat. it doesnt look like it bothers it at all, or that its hurting, it happens to be the best colored one. Does anyone know what those minght be caused from or what they are?
