Water temperature has been shown to affect the sex of shrimp during development.
This does work for swords as well. But raising the water temperature should be done during the whole gestation period to influence the sax ratio of the new offspring.
And yes, it's not a proven fact that temperature can be of influence but it's something we've experienced by own experience. And it's also a conclusion of tests but they just don't know how to explain in detail how it works. Lik more scientific tests (or research) talk about conclusions instead of prove.
It's not a 100% guarantee but most of the time, it does work. As a seasoned breeder of livebearers, I dare saying that.

I've heard of some Killifish changing sex also
Sex change can also happen in other fish species and other living species. So, why not...? To those who only believe in the existence of true male born and true female born and nothing else, this may sound unbelievable or even unacceptable. But Mother Nature doesn't work in black and white. But she also works in grey... and that grey area is still a questionable area to a lot of scientists. It's way to easy to say that something is not possible because it hasn't been proven scientifically (yet)...

But I also believe that certain things aren't explainable. And such a remark hurts in the heart of a scientist... And maybe we shouldn't try to prove all things but just accept it because it's there...
