I had a male sword tail that i introduced to my tank about two weeks ago. He had a large white patch under his mouth i mean in his bottom part. I do not know if it was normal or not. Yesterday i found him gasping at the water surface. I immediately changed about 20% of water and added some Aquarium Salt. But found him dead this morning and was lying at the bottom of the tank.

So much upset about this as everything was going fine. All other fish are normal, eating. I have two Gouramies and 1 Gourami is chasing the other one from last 3 days.

Please advise as if this sounds a problem???

Was the patch furry or not? Was it completely white without any other colour anywhere?

Water parameters, setup information, etc, please. Is it cycled?

Tank is being running from last 8 weeks, i did a mistake in the fourth week when i added 7 fishes, 6 of them died in the next 3 weeks. Then i added 7 more and after 2 weeks one sword tail died. Patch was not furry and it was completely white.

I am struggling with the water parameters even i am doing 20% water change every day. Last time when i checked the parameters Ammonia was at 0.50 ppm. Nitrite 0.25 ppm and Nitrate at 40ppm.

With ammonia and nitrite at those levels, it's fairly obvious why your swordtail died, I'm afraid.

You need to be doing larger water changes (warm, dechlorinated water, of course); as long as you switch your heater and filter off, you only have to leave enough water for the fsh to be able to swiim upright.

Ammonia and nitrite need to be as near to zero as you can get :good:

+1, please do not buy any more fish before you finish cycling your filter.
